Board of Directors:
Kelly Norton - Board Chair
Months before joining Guiding Star Siouxland as a volunteer in May, 2018, I sensed the Lord asking me, “You say you’re pro-life. What does that mean? How are you living that out?”. For me, it was a decision to be actively involved in something I believe in: Life!
Since becoming part of Guiding Star, I have learned that there are many ways and opportunities to be involved and serve, each one just as important as the other, in creating a Culture of Life.
My husband, Don, and I have been married nearly 30 years. When we started our family, I was blessed to become a stay-at-home mom and also home school our three children, who are now grown-up!
Tana Van Gorp - Vice Chair
Guiding Star Siouxland first came into my life while I was looking for help while breastfeeding. As a new mom, finding this organization that so closely aligns with my beliefs was incredibly helpful and very calming to my tired and frazzled nerves. As a woman, I am thankful for Guiding Star’s philosophy that our bodies were created beautifully and deserve understanding.
The more I become involved with Guiding Star, the more passionate I become about helping women and men discover just how wonderfully God created us to be. My husband Corey and I have been married since September of 2013. We have a son, Jace who was born October of 2017 and a chocolate lab named Dexter. We live just outside of Siouxland on an acreage. I am a radiologic technologist and working on obtaining my birth doula certification and Corey is an electrician.
Heidi Van Peursem - Treasurer
When my husband and I first began trying to conceive I was familiar enough with Guiding Star Siouxland to know I wanted to pursue their services. The Intro to Creighton Model course was just my gateway to falling in love with Guiding Star. I attended community discussions they hosted, volunteered as their Gala Coordinator, found support through miscarriage and gained valuable knowledge from their prenatal classes. As my involvement with GSOC has increased, so has my passion for their mission to empower and educate women about the beautiful and natural way our bodies were created to function.
I married my high school sweetheart in 2012. My husband and I both grew up in Sioux County and we now live near Siouxland. I work for a local bank, and my husband is a mechanic and also farms with his family. Our absolute favorite thing to do is to love on our sweet rainbow baby, Jackson, who was born in July of 2020.
Rachel Boothby - Secretary
Rachel’s introduction to Guiding Star Siouxland came when she and her husband Mike attended a Spinning Babies childbirth class in the spring of 2018. Rachel became interested in the mission of Guiding Star and she was inspired by all the work that Guiding Star does for the women, children, and families of Northwest Iowa. Rachel has always been passionate about supporting women and babies, and she is so excited to begin serving as the Secretary of the Board of Directors.
Rachel and her husband Mike were married in June 2007. They have lived in Northwest Iowa since February 2016, when Mike became the pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton. They have been blessed with four amazing children. Rachel has the added joy of homeschooling her oldest two kids. The family loves spending time together by exploring parks and watching movies.

Shortly after I started, I began to take on our marketing and website management. I soon fell in love with marketing! Coming from a non-profit background, I am excited to assist Guiding Star as the Marketing and Media Volunteer!
My husband and I were married in 2015 and we live in Sioux Center. My husband, Caleb, works at Walmart (where we met!) as a Team Lead and I currently work for Premier Communications as a Customer Service Representative. We also have a super cute and spoiled dog named Holly.
