Board of Directors:

Rachel Boothby - Board Chair

Rachel’s introduction to Guiding Star Siouxland came when she and her husband Mike attended a Spinning Babies childbirth class in the spring of 2018. Rachel became interested in the mission of Guiding Star and she was inspired by all the work that Guiding Star does for the women, children, and families of Northwest Iowa. Rachel has always been passionate about supporting women and babies, and she is so excited to begin serving as the Secretary of the Board of Directors.

Rachel and her husband Mike were married in June 2007. They have lived in Northwest Iowa since February 2016, when Mike became the pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ireton. They have been blessed with four amazing children. Rachel has the added joy of homeschooling her oldest two kids. The family loves spending time together by exploring parks and watching movies.

Erin Handeland - Vice Chair

Erin Handeland and her husband, Shawn, began their involvement with Guiding Star in January 2019 when seeking out more information on NaPro Technology following multiple pregnancy losses. They learned Creighton Model Charting and were referred to the Saint Paul VI Institute for treatment and, as a result, were blessed with their second son in November 2020.

Today they live in Emmetsburg, Iowa and are raising two boys, Ben and Anders. Erin works as an occupational therapist and Shawn is a chiropractor. Through her spiritual, personal and professional lens, Erin values the holistic, life-affirming message and services Guiding Star offers to Orange City.

Heidi Van Peursem - Member at Large

When my husband and I first began trying to conceive I was familiar enough with Guiding Star Siouxland to know I wanted to pursue their services. The Intro to Creighton Model course was just my gateway to falling in love with Guiding Star. I attended community discussions they hosted, volunteered as their Gala Coordinator, found support through miscarriage and gained valuable knowledge from their prenatal classes. As my involvement with GS Siouxland has increased, so has my passion for their mission to empower and educate women about the beautiful and natural way our bodies were created to function.

I married my high school sweetheart in 2012. My husband and I both grew up in Sioux County and we now live near Orange City. I work for a local bank, and my husband is a mechanic and also farms with his family. Our absolute favorite thing to do is to love on our sweet rainbow baby, Jackson, who was born in July of 2020.

Tara De Nooy - Member at Large

Tara De Nooy has been a part of Guiding Star Siouxland since before it was even Guiding Star Siouxland. She and her husband Loren were some of the first Creighton Model Fertility Care clients at Orange City Fertility Care Center, after the birth of their first child in 2013. They then utilized the services offered to help them during their time of infertility and post-partum struggles. It was shortly after the birth of their second child that Guiding Star Orange City began (later to be changed to Guiding Star Siouxland). Because of the support they received from the early days of Orange City Fertility Care Center and Guiding Star Siouxland they now have four beautiful children! It has been a joy to see Guiding Star Siouxland become what it is today!

The De Nooys live in Sioux Center, Iowa where Loren works for a local construction company and Tara has been blessed to stay at home for the last six years, and enjoys homeschooling their children. As a family they enjoy being outside, playing games, and spending time together. Tara is excited to serve on the board of Guiding Star Siouxland as it has been a big part of her and her family’s life!

Chelsey Feauto - Secretary

After a pretty traumatic experience with our first birth, my husband and I were looking for another level of support and found Guiding Star and their amazing services! We were immediately impressed with their level of care and love for God and His people. We have now used our doula twice and achieved a redemptive childbirth experience! The resources I found through Guiding Star opened a passion for supporting women in trusting and loving their natural, God given functions and roles in life, marriage, and parenting. I am honored to have the opportunity to share some of that passion and grow by serving on the board.

My husband, Mark, and I were married in September 2011 and have three beautiful children in our arms and one we will meet in Heaven someday. We live in Spencer where Mark is an associate pastor at our church and I have the opportunity to stay at home with our children.
