Creating Christmas memories
Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house,
Laughter and giggles would scare away any mouse.
The kids were not sleeping as they lay not in bed
But next to the lit Christmas tree shining brightly overhead.
Dad looks at mom, ‘Why did we agree
“To allow them to sleep together, all three.
“They’re not going to sleep,” dad says with a sigh.
Mom knows that’s true, there might be some tired eyes.
“It’s the memories they’ll keep because we said yes.
“They did this last year and said it was the best.”
Dad nodded his head and said, “I’ll take the first watch.
Then remember after 1 a.m. I’m off the clock.”
Mom sets out the coffee checking for the bag of espresso.
She blinks and finds three 6 a.m. smiles saying “hello.”
Why yes it’s Christmas morning, dear children of mine.
Go ahead and wake your father, it’s story and present time.
We have Christmas because God sent his only son
To be a baby in a manger, that doesn’t sound like fun.
But God had a plan, to save all of his people
He sent his son to die on cross (that’s not a steeple).
Jesus’s birth is the reason we gather with joy
This story is greater than any new toy.
Hark the herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled”
Joyful, all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With the angelic host proclaim:
“Christ is born in Bethlehem”
Hark! The herald angels sing
“Glory to the newborn King!”
